So you and your significant other are getting married, huh?! First of all, congratulation! This is huge, and it definitely deserves to be celebrated. Secondly, I know finding wedding vendors are tough! My hope is that by the end of this blog, I will have made it a little bit easier for you. At least as far as finding a wedding videographer goes!
I promise that you are not alone in this - pull up a seat and stay a while!
5 THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW
WHEN FINDING A WEDDING VIDEOGRAPHER
As a Wedding Videographer based in the Pacific Northwest, I am confident in saying that videographers are hard to search for. Whether you are searching on Google or Instagram, our profiles seem to be difficult to find. Hopefully, the following tools will not only aid you in finding a wedding videographer but will also give you ideas of the type of video are hoping to receive at the end of this.
01 | THE DIFFERENT TYPES + STYLES
Overall, there are two different types of wedding videography styles — Luxury/Cinematic and Documentary/Story Driven. Both are beautiful in their own way but knowing
which one you prefer is so important when searching for the person who you would like to capture your wedding.
LUXURY: big sweeping cinematic shots, a highlight reel style
DOCUMENTARY: multiple story elements, an additional adventure session, story-driven, with your wedding as the culmination of it all.
02 | BEST PLACES TO SEARCH
You could technically try finding a wedding videographer anywhere they might have a platform. However, I recommend sticking to YouTube, Vimeo, Love Stories TV, and Instagram.
These specific resources are the most well know, and videographers typically have the most luck.
NOTE: If you search via IG make sure to watch more than just their reels! So you can get a better idea of what their full films are like.
03 | YOUR EXPECTATIONS
Unlike photographers, videographers, and the way in which they shoot, can really interfere with your wedding day. Not sure what I mean by this? Think lights, Gimbels, and tripods everywhere.
This may be fine and worth it to you to get a super cinematic highlight reel of your wedding. However, often it isn’t — and that is okay. Be real and open when determining your expectations for your day and what role your photo and video team play in those expectations.
If your videographer is skilled at what they do, they won’t need a whole production set to film your wedding. Your wedding day shouldn’t feel like a staged movie just because you have a videographer.
You deserve to experience your wedding day without too much interference from your video team.
04 | QUESTIONS TO ASK ON YOUR CONSULT CALL
Almost all wedding videographers will request a consult call with you. If they don’t, that should be a MAJOR red flag.
Being prepared with things to ask will help you know if they are who you should hire or not.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
HOW DO YOU TACKLE WORKING WITH A PHOTOGRAPHER?
HOW DO YOU CHOOSE MUSIC?
WHAT DO YOU DO TO PREP COUPLES FOR THEIR VIDEO?
WHAT IS YOUR TURN-AROUND TIME?
05 | THEIR ABILITY TO WORK WITH OTHER VENDORS
It’s important that your videographer knows how to work well with your photographer, and know that they two are going to be a good match for each other.
You want a team that will make your day easier and more relaxed, not competing for shots.
